UFC 270: The Fight Day Weigh-Ins

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The California state athletic commission requires fighters to weigh in both officially the day before the fight and then again the night of the fight.

This is all publicly released information as well.

Anything over a 15% increase between official and on the day weigh-in can be cancelled but rarely is.

At UFC 270 case there were a few interesting cases some fighters you would think would be heavier, and some fighters I was very surprised that they made the weight at all.

All fighters on UFC 270 made weight.

But we had two pulled fighters, Illa Topruia for concerns due to the weight cutting.

I was surprised about this he’s not a massively tall featherweight at 5FT7 and always comes in very lean I would be surprised if he weighs more than 160lbs.

The other was Rodolfo Vieira which wasn’t a surprise at all.

Vieira at a WNO grappling event weighed in for a match at 216lbs a 17% difference between his official weight, and still as lean as his UFC fights.

At this point Vieira the only way for Vieira to have an easier time of making 185lb would be to lose muscle.

he’s already sub 8% body fat it wouldn’t be ideal for him to lose more.

I suspect this may have been the reason his fight was pulled.

The biggest surprise for everyone is Cody Stamann weighing 159lbs it was always known that Stamann would get quite heavy between fights often around the 170 mark.

But he was cutting more weight than any other fighter on the card.

Including all the welterweights in terms of the weight cut.

Now on a three-fight losing streak maybe it’s time for him to move up to featherweight.

But it is important to note he has always made weight.

I was also surprised to find that Michel Pereira was only cutting 14lbs in weight.

I always thought Pereira of a guy cutting massive amounts of weight to get to 170lbs, especially after his missed weight bout against Tristan Connelly.

But there were 6 other welterweight fighters on the UFC 270 and only his opponent was lighter than he was.

Jack Della, Pete Rodriguez, Michael Morales and Trevin Giles all weighted more on fight day.

From looking back at his fight against Connelly it does look like Pereira has shed a little bit of muscle mass to make the weight cut easier.

The photo below shows Pereira on the left at UFC 270 and on the right Pereira against Tristan Connelly.

Lastly, Deiveson Figueiredo weighs in at 143 lbs, which is the size of a small bantamweight.

Fighters like Cody Garbrant and Casey Kenney have talked openly that they don’t get heavier than 145lbs.

On top of that Figgy is coming with a very low body fat compared to those two.

Just eyeballing him I would say around 6% body fat.

This weight cut apparently had the best yet according to his team.

I would genuinely like to know how much he weighed the day of his first fight against Joseph Benavidez.
